Ah, lovely Skala. This shot was taken at dusk one summer evening in 2012 from the main road which runs beside the harbour. A cruise ship is moored alongside and the restaurants are beginning to serve their evening meals. There are no all-night clubs, nor pounding music here; just the harmony of conversation, blended with the percussive tinkling of glasses and cutlery, the lapping of the sea against the shore and the occasional engines of passing vehicles.
Most of the restaurants here serve typical Greek meals - for instance, we enjoyed some fantastic fish dishes, great souvlaki, home-made meatballs and stuffed vegetables to make the mouth water. There are also a number of bars and cafes, if you fancy a pre-dinner drink, or a late evening coffee. The younger crowd seemed to base themselves around the Creperie - where we also attempted (unsuccessfully) to finish the chocolatiest chocolate crepe.
Self-catering visitors will be glad to note the choice of a few small supermarkets, a bakery, a butcher and some very tempting patisseries.
