Patmos Island
Patmos is part of the Dodecanese group of islands in the Aegean, only 40 miles from the Turkish coast. The historic Monastery of St. John is situated in the island's historic capital, Chora.

The smaller village of Kambos/Kampos was in the past the centre of Patmos' farming community.

Grikos has only recently come into being as a result of construction of tourist accommodation.

In 1981 the Greek Parliament passed a special law which decreed Patmos as a Sacred Island.
