Skala - 'Small Square'
Skala is the commercial harbour for the Island, and for most visitors the squares just off the quayside will be the first view of the island.

The small square is located, yes, you guessed it - just behind the main sqaure. The square get a little hectic when the larger cruise ships dock, and hundreds of day visitors rush to be whisked up the Monastery, or buy souvenirs, stroll the streets and take refreshment in the bars and cafes.

The road system and traffic arrangements are a free for all as scooters, taxis, donkeys and pedestrians all appear to have equal right of way (in any direction!). The evenings are more relaxed, there are no disco bars or (heaven forbid) 'English Pubs' here, though many establishments remain open well into the early hours.
