The 'Afrodite' |
Many of you will know Andie and I intended to marry this year, and return to the Greek Island of Patmos, where we spent so many happy times.
Andie always said she left a part of herself there and would shed tears each time we left, as she watched the island shrink into the distance from the rear of the hyrdrofoil. In the dark days of November 2002 as Andie lay in the Leeds General Infirmary, with wires and pipes connected to the machines keeping her alive, only able to feel pain, I promised her I would make her dream come true and ensure a part of her would forever be on the Island she loved. During our many trips, although we visited every corner of the Island, there was always one beach which was stubbornly out of reach, no matter what we tried, mopeds, mountain climbing, hiring a boat, we never made it onto the sands of 'Psili Ammos', regarded as the most beautiful on the Island. This years trip provided its share of obstacles, but I was determined to keep the promise, and at exactly 12 noon on Sunday the 28th September some of Andies' ashes were scattered from the rocks above the beach. |
